Peter Hamerslag brings a unique background to Allan Marain & Associates. A graduate of Rutgers Law School, he spent 31 years as a prosecutor, striving both to bring justice to victims and to our citizenry, and to ensure that defendants received fair treatment, even if that treatment had to be severe due to the crimes committed. That very evenhandedness, and his knowledge of the prosecutorial system, make him a particularly effective advocate for defendants.

Peter has handled every conceivable variety of criminal case in his many years as a prosecutor, including all of the most serious ones:

  • murder
  • narcotics
  • immigration
  • carjacking and auto theft
  • firearms

Peter has particular experience with Megan’s Law prosecutions. His experience includes cases with highly sensitive political implications. He has often served not just as a member of a trial team, but as the trial team leader, giving him special insight into the broader implications of the prosecutions being undertaken. This wide background makes him especially effective in defending persons falsely accused of criminal activity.

Peter has worked as a Prosecutor throughout most of central and southern New Jersey, in Union, Cape May, and Middlesex Counties.
